St Lukes Inquiry Unit at McCrackens

News article posted on 10 June, 2015

St Lukes Year 5/6 students with Ms Hicks and Ms Ryan have been doing hands-on research based work at McCracken’s bush reserve in North Shepparton this term.

The St Lukes students have been very enthusiastic and passionate as they worked on their Inquiry project over four sessions at the river. The theme was "Can one Kid save the planet".

McCracken’s is the St Lukes Reach of the Goulburn River. it is a Parks Victoria managed site located north of Reedy Swamp at the very north end of Reedy Swamp road (west end of Daldy Road). This great block of bushland is just the perfect setting for the students to run free, exploring and researching for their inquiry unit.

Parks Vic Ranger Tracey O'Keeffe lead the Introduction session in April, teaching the students about the natural environment and the role of Parks Victoria in looking after sites like these.

RiverConnect helped with the sessions by leading interactive activities including 'The story of leaf litter", the Water Cycle, Snakes and Fish Ladders, Wildlife talk (taxidermy animals), scats and tracks.

The projects will be posted under the St Lukes Blog on the RiverConnect website so ... Watch this space!!
