There will be an official celebratory event for an exhibition, Water Water Aesthetic Responses to the Goulburn Broken Catchment, by visual artists from the Australian National University and architects from RMIT University. Musicians from the Australian National University will perform two contemporary, impromptu ensemble works at the celebratory event.

The celebratory event is being held from 5.30 pm - 6.45 pm on Tuesday 25 September, 2012 at the Eastbank Foyer Gallery, Shepparton Art Museum, Eastbank Centre, 70 Welsford Street, Shepparton.

The work  produced by the visual artists, architects and musicians has been inspired by multiple field trips to the Greater Shepparton Region from February to May 2012. The artists’ understanding of the landscape and prevailing environmental issues was informed by consultations with members from a wide variety of local community organisations. Visual artists worked in the media of paint, photography, ceramics, sculpture, collage, printmaking, artist books and digital animation. Architects designed prospective structures for two local precincts; and the musicians, armed with classical instruments, will finalise their field study compositions in performance on the night of the celebratory event.

The field trips to the Greater Shepparton Region and the resulting exhibition and performance are components of a Field Study program convened by Mr John Reid, a visual artist and Co-ordinator Environment Studio, School of Art, Australian National University, Dr Richard Black, an architect and a Senior Lecturer, School of Architecture and Design, RMIT University, and Mr Tor Fromyhr, Head of Strings, School of Music, Australian National University.

Mr Peter Ryan, Chairman, Goulburn Broken Catchment Management Authority, will be host for the evening. John Reid and Richard Black will give a brief overview of the visual art and architecture on exhibition. Tor Fromyhr will conduct the ANU School of Music Contemporary Music Ensemble.

Water Water Aesthetic Responses to the Goulburn Broken Catchment extends  over two venues: Eastbank Foyer Gallery, Shepparton Art Museum; and Butter Factory Precinct Shopfront, Shepparton.
