RiverConnect Festival 2012

RiverConnect held its inaugural RiverConnect Festival 2012 on Sunday 29 April along the river side of Victoria Park Lake.

Approximately 180 – 200 attendees participated in celebrating our rivers and wetlands, and enjoyed a range of free activities including canoeing, guided walk, guided bus tour, Aboriginal Elders talking circles, interactive stalls and a BBQ lunch.

The RiverConnect Strategic Plan was officially launched by Julie Salomon, General Manager Community Development, Greater Shepparton City Council and Chris Norman, CEO, Goulburn Broken Catchment Management Authority, along with the RiverConnect Website.

RiverConnect sought feedback on the day regarding the Festival but also the project as a whole. Results indicated that most people’s knowledge of the river environments, cultural heritage and the RiverConnect project increased, and people generally would attend more events in a river setting. A large percentage of participants saw improvements to path network, river events and cultural heritage as of high importance.

This information will now be used to help guide RiverConnect priority areas for action over the next 12 months.

Attendees also were able to enter into the draw to win one of three half day canoe safari gift vouchers with River Country Adventours. Congratulations to Dianne Farmer, Michelle Smith and Michelle Hando.
