Gemmill's Swamp Bird Walk

News article posted on 2 February, 2014

RiverConnect, Activities in the Park and BirdLife Murray-Goulburn Branch joined forces once again for a Bird Walk and Talk followed by a BBQ brunch.

The 2 February this year is World Wetlands Day . Gemmills Swamp is dry at this time of year, however the vegetation and surrounding bushland provide habitat for many woodland birds.

Fourteen participants and four members of BirdLife Murray-Goulburn Branch walked along the Gemmills Swamp track. With the temperature expected to reach 42 degrees celcius, it was a perfect opportunity to get out for an 8.00 am walk before the day warmed up.

Twenty-seven species of birds were spotted along the way including Pelican and the Sacred Kingfisher!

Upon their return, everyone enjoyed a brunch and chat.

This was the third walk in this 2013-2014 summer series - Cussen Park in October, Victoria Park lake in November and now Gemmills Swamp.

Keep an eye out for future walks in our upcoming events section of the website and if you have any feedback or location suggestions please let us know.
